Photoshoot
Tony Hughes asked if I would photograph his local football team, Montgomery Town FC one Saturday morning before a match. No problem I reply, asked what he was looking for so I could get an idea of the type of shoot he needed.
I roll up on the Saturday afternoon and meet up with Richard and Ellie, we have a chat about the format and Ellie said she would be happy to organise the players for a group and individual shots as required – perfect.
I have to admit, I’ve never really got into sport photography or the details of organising players for various photographic shoots so this was a bit of a learning curve, having Ellies there to assist was ideal and we were also working to a tight timescale and for that matter, where I could shoot as the players needed to practice before the game and I was also looking for areas of interest to make for a great composition which meant being on the pitch and pretty much, being in the way!
We managed to get everything done after an hour or so and I could see our home and away teams eager to make a start.
Having never shot a sports event before, I asked Richard if it would be okay to stay on a bit longer and maybe try and capture the players during the match, no problem at all he replied. I spent another hour moving around to practice those action shots that are typical of the ones often seen in newspapers and some arty ones involving the goal keeper’s net.
Talking to Richard about the club I mentioned to him that I had noticed some adverts around the pitch and asked if these were sponsors, yes he said, the club is in need of funding and they really appreciated the sponsors support, so I offered to become one and hopefully by this time, there will be a G17 Photography Services banner to compliment the others.
