Photoshoot at Gregynog Hall
A Conversation.....
It started with a conversation in a pub, I was filming a local band and bumped into Sally who was, as it happened, dancing away to that local band. Hey Adam Sally says, I said ‘WHAT’! The band is so loud, tonight it was Monty’s own Doris playing and they had some Led Zeppelin up their sleeves which meant all amp controls up to 11 !
ADAM – shouted Sally, I’d like to do another ‘location photoshoot’ but can’t think where to do it, so we had a think (well, Sally had a dance, I had a think) Gregynog I thought – our mutual friend Lydia works there – GREGYNOG I shouted back to Sally, which was a bit embarrassing as the band had stopped playing and I got a few strange looks from the band and crowd.
A-hem, how about Gregynog I repeated back to Sally – perfect, Sally would get to work and make all the arrangements. A date was set and we also arranged to visit and do a quick reccy of the best locations and rooms for the shoot.
The day arrived and so did all of Sally’s students, wow – there are so many. We only had half a day at most for this shoot so the majority of the shoot would be based around the music room so we could get through all of these cuties!
Gregynog is a beautiful location and almost every room is a photo waiting to be captured. Having not shot here before it was essential I had the right lights for the job so I brought everything, including the kitchen sink….. just in case, but I actually ended up only using a set of continuous lights. The lighting setup allows, in real time, for you to see exactly what you are getting and the colour temperature of the lights bring out all the costumes vibrant colours and sparkles.
I was hoping to include some video work but we only managed a small snippet towards the end of the day as shown in the video.
With Sally constantly at my side to help choregraph her students, we managed to get a set of images that reflected the beauty of the dancers and the atmosphere of the wonderful location that is Gregynog.
Many thanks to Gregynog for allowing us to take over their music room, I think we will be back to explore more of the wonderful rooms here.
