Photo Charter
Had a wonderful day shooting and filming with the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway team.
The weather; I thought the possible all day constant rain was going to ruin the day totally, but in fact, we had a mixture of sun, rain and imposing clouds which was perfect and provided a mixture of light and moody shots taking in the beauty of the Mid Wales countryside.
The day was organised by David Williams via a photo charter with the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. It is an excellent way of having an affordable full (or 3) day shoot with a dedicated team from the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway to move the train however and whichever way you required to get your shot. Lunch was also provided although not included in the price.
Plenty of opportunities to compose, recompose, wait for the right light etc. While waiting for the light, (which could take around an hour for the sun to briefly appear) I got a chance to chat to other photographers there. I found out that I was the only local guy in the group, others had travelled a long way for this photo charter and most had signed up for the 3 days.
Quite a few knew about the local train infrastructure in this area and I learnt a lot about the history of narrow-gauge trains across Wales and Shropshire as well as abroad.
Train photographers are a very dedicated group of people and serious about their subject matter and it was a joy to be part of the day, not only for taking photos, but also learning about all things narrow-gauge nationally and internationally.
If you would like to know more or take part in this area of photography, reach out to the amazing team over at the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway
